All Things Bike at Gallagher gets the green light
The countdown to Africa's biggest biking event from 17 to 19 February 2012, 'All Things Bike' (ATB), started with the official launch on 26 August at Gallagher Convention Centre. It will also be the venue of choice beyond 2012 for this annual event. 'ATB' will be hosted concurrently with the annual Beeld Holiday Show, which attracted 10,000 visitors at the first show in 2006, growing to a potential of 25 000 to 35 000 visitors in 2011.
Gallagher GM Operations Charles Wilson, says that ATB is not affiliated to any association and does not compete with any other biking show: "ATB is a Gallagher invention and we create our own dynamics as the market is big enough to accommodate different shows for bikers. However, our differentiation strategy is that we have a strong relationship with media partners and our collective investment in terms of marketing and publicity, between now and February 2012 will be maximized in terms of input costs and value of exposure. With February still falling in the rainy season, our venue allows for extensive indoor displays, secure parking and an exciting environment fit for leisure seekers and biking enthusiasts. "
During the launch event, Hampie de Kock, organiser of the Beeld Holiday Show, said that biking is very much part of the 2012 show motto of 'Plan Your Break' or 'Breek Reg Weg'. "Bikers are no longer exclusive to any specific level in the LSM (Living Standards Measurement) grading, which is partly due to the impact of a negative economy and the consequence of the cost of transport and unpredictable congestion patterns. This may result in the biking industry to quadruple in the foreseeable future, which may also be fuelled by expenditure on high-end products, as biking enjoys its own unique culture."
De Kock confirmed that the 'Beeld Holiday Show' and 'All Things Bike' combined will be the largest leisure and biking exhibition ever to be hosted in the country. "There will be displays in four of the Gallagher exhibition halls. Suppliers of bikes and accessories have a real cost effective opportunity to display their products and merchandise. For a mere R50 entrance fee, visitors will enjoy value for their money. Exhibitors at the Beeld Holiday Show, which created in excess of R140 million in sales opportunities at the 2011 event, will extend from camping equipment, water craft, trailers and motor homes to tour operators, thus introducing additional sales opportunities for ATB exhibitors through visitors to the Beeld show. Together with Gallagher we have put in place an extensive marketing programme including billboards, print and radio advertising, street pole advertising and other event-specific promotions."
Further announcements about the entertainment during the show will be made closer to the time, although an arrangement is in place with the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuur Vereniging) for bilingual entertainment by some of the country's well known artists. There will be many additional attractions, including a Harley Davidson motorcycle to be won by any visitor, sponsored by Gallagher, a Quick Loader Trailer giveaway sponsored by Trailrite Trailers as well a tool wall unit and Air Tool from ATM Accessories Tool Market.
'All Things Bike' enjoys the media support from Beeld newspaper, which is part of Media 24, as well as some of SA's leading Motorcycling Magazines including; Biker Lifestyle Magazine and SuperBike and Woema Magazine. Additional exposure for the show comes through Daryl Peel's ventures, which include iKARA newspaper, which is aimed specifically at the emerging market, Motoring Monthly newspaper, which features all things motoring lifestyle orientated - including motorcycles and Mix 93.8FM's Motoring in the Mix show, which is on Tuesdays from 6-8pm.
